Paneer makes any recipe rich and exotic. Today, I am going to share an easy peasy paneer curry that doesn’t involve any grinding, not much chopping too. With some handful of peas, paneer, and onion you make this yummylicious paneer curry. Wondering why am I calling this as yellow paneer curry recipe? This blog doesn’t need any introduction to kiddos love for paneer. I always try to make some easy paneer curries. The quest of making paneer curry lead me to try the fusion paneer curry with pasta sauce in Instant Pot. You can find the recipe here. Here is my second attempt in that quest.
Last year, Gayathri was posting paleo paneer recipes, and she made this simple curry just with paneer, full-fat milk, yellow chili powder and kasoori methi. I was so amazed at its simplicity and tried it right away. But I went with heavy cream and red chili powder as we don’t drink full-fat milk at home and as I couldn’t source yellow chili powder. For vaandu, I gave full-fat dairy products till he turned 6. Then I switched back to 2% dairy products.I wanted to buy yellow chili powder from India during my last India trip. But I forgot that completely. But I started to make this paneer curry recipe with the store-bought curry powder, and as vaandu approved it, I didn’t look for yellow chili powder. You don’t need curry powder at all. Just chili powder would do, or garam masala plus chili powder combo is sufficient.
I added peas just for some color and texture. You can add or ignore or add colored bell peppers. I included an equal amount of sugar and salt and believe me, that adds a magic to this recipe. As the recipe simmers, the yellow color shines and makes is very inviting. There is no full stop to your creativity. So let me share what I prepared and let me know how you transformed the same. :-)
Here comes my yellow paneer curry recipe.
Yellow Paneer Curry | Easy Paneer Recipes
Easy peasy yummylicious paneer curry with just handful of ingredients and without any grinding and much chopping.
Ingredients:
- Paneer – 5 oz block
- Frozen Peas – 1/2 cup
- Hot Water – 1 cup
- Oil – 1 tsp
- Cumin Seeds – 1 tsp
- Chopped Onion – 1/2 cup
- Curry Powder – 1 tsp
- Turmeric Powder – 1/2 tsp
- Sugar – 1 tsp
- Salt – 1 tsp
- Dried Fenugreek Leaves / Kasoori Methi – 2 tsp
- Heavy Cream – 1/2 cup
- Chopped Cilantro to garnish.
Prep – Work:
- Chop the onion and thaw the peas and bring it to room temperature.
- Cut the paneer into small squares and I soaked it in hot water for 5 minutes. Drain the water and set it aside. This is just to soften the paneer cubes. If you are using homemade paneer, you don’t need to do this. You can also fry the paneer if you prefer.
Steps:
- Heat a pan and add the oil.
- When the oil is hot, add the cumin seeds and let it splutter.
- Then add the onion and saute until they turn translucent.
- Now add the salt, sugar, crushed kasoori methi, turmeric powder, and curry powder.
- Then add the drained paneer and peas.
- Mix them all and cook for two minutes.
- Now add the heavy cream and gently stir. Reduce the heat to low.
- Bring it to just one boil and turn off the heat.
That’s it. Yellow paneer curry is ready. Garnish it with cilantro and serve hot with rotis.
Notes:
- Adjust the sugar, salt as per your preference. Also along with curry powder you can include red chili powder or yellow chili powder.
- Instead of curry powder, you can go with red chili powder or yellow chili powder or any other masalas of your choice.
- Along with peas, you can include colored bell peppers.
- I would recommend minimum 2 tsps of kasoori methi for this recipe. If you like the flavor, you can go up to 3 to 4 tsps as well.
- I did not fry the paneer, but you can sure do if you like it that way.
