Delicious and refreshing watermelon ginger juice or cooler with the hint of nannari syrup. A healthy and a perfect thirst quencher!

Right after posting a semi-homemade butterbeer recipe, I am with a refreshing fruit-based summer drink – watermelon juice. As much as I love to eat fresh fruits, I love to make quick desserts and smoothies and froyos with them. Basically, I experiment a lot with fruits.

But this recipe is not an experimental one. It’s the famous watermelon and ginger juice!

We all know the health benefits of watermelon. According to Healthline, watermelon contains only 46 calories per cup and is high in vitamin C, vitamin A, and many healthy plant compounds. And 92% of the fruit is water.

And coming to ginger, it aids in digestion and has anti-inflammatory properties. When we combine both ginger and watermelon, what can go wrong? All it provides is – a glass full of goodness that we can relish without any guilt.

What other flavorings can we add?

You don’t need any additional flavoring syrups. The sweetness of watermelon and the zing of the ginger is sufficient. But just for an added kick, I went with nannari/sarsaparilla syrup. I have explained the health benefits of nannari in my nannari sarbath post. Sarsaparilla is a natural coolant, and I used the store-bought syrup and added 2 tbsps of it. But that’s completely optional.

You can also use rose syrup or roohafza instead of nannari syrup. This combination works well for a party or get-together.

    Other Variations-

    • If you want to keep this watermelon ginger juice as a detox, I will skip the store-bought nannari syrup or rose syrup or roohafza as it has hidden sugar. Instead, you add lemon/lime juice or even cucumber.
    • You can also soak some chia seeds or basil/sabja (both are different) and add those seeds.
    • I usually don’t add water to this juice, but you can add three or more cups and make more like watermelon ginger agua fresca.

The sky is the limit, and you can mix and match and create your concoction. This watermelon ginger cooler is a perfect non-alcoholic summer drink. So make it this summer and enjoy the goodness of watermelon.

PS – Don’t discard the watermelon rind. I have some exciting recipes coming. Stay tuned.

Now without any further ado, here is how I prepared my watermelon ginger juice.

How to make watermelon ginger juice/cooler-

For 1kg of chopped watermelon, I used 20 grams of ginger and 2 tbsp of nannari syrup.

    • Add the ingredients in the blender in batches and blend it thoroughly. As I used 1 kg, I blended half of the watermelon with half the ginger amount and 1 tbsp of nannari syrup and then blended the other half. I used my Blendtec and used the smoothie setting.
    • Mix the juice thoroughly and serve right away or refrigerate it and serve cold.

    Recipe Notes-

    • We like this ratio of watermelon to ginger. You can adjust accordingly.
    • I usually don’t sieve my watermelon juice. We love it as is. But you can run the juice through a sieve and filter it as well.
    • Make sure you remove the seeds before blending. Also, if your watermelon is not sweet enough, then add sugar.
    • Nannari syrup is entirely optional. You can skip or instead add roohafza or rose syrup or if you want this juice more like a detox, then add some lemon/lime juice.
    • For my watermelon juice, I don’t add extra water. But if you want to make it more like agua fresca.
    • You can also add soaked basil seeds or chia seeds for added health benefits.

    • Banana milkshake
    • Mixed berry smoothie
    • Madurai special jigarthanda
    • Nannari sarbath
