My love for limeades
I have always had a soft spot for lemonades and limeades. From kulukki sarbath to limonana, shikanji and barley lemonade, my blog already has quite a collection of these bright, citrusy drinks. The tangy, refreshing quality of a great limeade never gets old for me, and whenever I dine out, I always find myself scanning the menu for something unique in the glass.
My first encounter with this particular drink was at a restaurant in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Fresh lime and creamy coconut are two of my absolute favorite flavor pairings, so when I spotted a drink that brought them together, I ordered it immediately — and it did not disappoint. That single glass left a lasting impression.
Back home, I turned to Google to learn more, and that’s when I discovered this is actually a well-loved Colombian beverage called limonada de coco. It was a delightful surprise to find that the drink I had stumbled upon at a coastal restaurant has such wonderful Latin American roots!
PS — I want to be upfront that this is not an authentic or traditional Colombian recipe. I’ve put together my own version, sweetened with condensed milk. If you’ve made my tender coconut kheer, you’ll recognize a similar flavor profile — just swap the tender coconut for a good squeeze of fresh lime. Now, let’s get into it!
What You’ll Need

Only three core components go into this limeade: one can of full-fat coconut milk, sweetened condensed milk, and freshly squeezed lime juice.
You’ll also want plenty of ice — you can blend it right in or pile it into the glass before pouring. For an extra special touch, I love finishing each serving with a light drizzle of agave nectar and a scatter of unsweetened coconut flakes. Both also double as a beautiful rim garnish if you’re serving this at a party.
Dietary specifications and ingredient substitutions
This limonada de coco is naturally gluten-free and nut-free, making it a great option for a crowd. To make it fully vegan, replace the sweetened condensed milk with agave nectar, maple syrup, or raw cane sugar. When using one of these alternatives, swapping in coconut cream instead of the regular canned version will give you that same luscious, rich body. Or keep it lighter and stick with the standard canned milk — both work beautifully.

How to Make Limonada De Coco
Making this drink truly couldn’t be simpler — just three steps stand between you and a glass of this creamy, citrusy goodness.
- Pour the coconut milk, freshly squeezed lime juice, and sweetened condensed milk into your blender.

- Blend on high for 45 to 50 seconds until the mixture is completely smooth, well combined, and slightly frothy.

- Serve immediately over crushed ice, or refrigerate until you’re ready to pour. Add the coconut flakes and agave drizzle just before serving to keep that lovely texture and presentation fresh.
Recipe Notes
- Lime tartness can vary quite a bit depending on the fruit, so taste the blended drink and adjust the condensed milk accordingly.
- For vegan and dairy-free alternatives, refer to the swaps section above.
