I am happy to announce that I am co-hosting Millets recipe contest for this Mother’s Day with Indian Moms Connect and Secret Recipes of India. Mothers hold a very special place in our hearts. This year, Mother’s Day falls on May 8th, 2016. This year we decided to celebrate Mother’s Day by combining our love for our mothers with our motherland :) A Recipe Contest With Millets which are native grains of India, our Motherland! So go on and call your moms and find out how they created magic from millets.
Millets are one of the oldest foods known to humans and are one of the native and staple foods of India. They are small seeded grass that grow well in dry regions. They can also be grown and cultivated in a short span of time. There are different types of millets:

They are highly nutritious and don’t form any acids. They are easy to digest. Also, as they release less glucose over a long period of time, they are good for diabetic patients and also reduce the risk of diabetes.

According to Wiki, “India is the world’s largest producer of millet. In the 1970s, all of the millet crops harvested in India were used as a food staple. By the 2000s, the annual millet production had increased in India, yet per capita consumption of millet had dropped by between 50% to 75% in different regions of the country. “ But millets are becoming popular again. They are not food for fodder or birds anymore. People are slowly realizing their health benefits and millet-based foods are becoming a trend again.
This May, we at Indian Moms Connect, Vidhya’s Vegetarian Kitchen and Secret Indian Recipes are planning to celebrate the Mother’s Day with millet recipes. Bring on your millet recipes or your mom’s and win a gift and also get featured in our Millets e-book. Top three recipes will get prizes and will be featured in our e-Book.
How To Enter
You can choose either one of the following ways to enter
- Put in the recipe post url as a comment below in this post and we will peep into your blog
- If you don’t have a blog, just send it as an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and we will receive it there
- Send in your original millet recipes on or before May 18th
- One recipe per contestant
- Older posts are allowed as long as there are original pictures in them, though the entry is still restricted to one per contestant
- Please send in the detailed recipe with bright and clear high-definition pictures. (Stepwise pictures are not required)
- Top three winners will be notified and their recipes will get featured in the IMC e-Book with your credits.
