Dal Masala - 2 tbspsI went with the store bought arhar dal masala, read the substitute in the note section
Tomatoes - 2
Salt - 3 tsps
Medium Sized Onion - 1
Green Chillies - 2
Cilantro - couple of strands
Water - 3 cups
Turmeric Powder - ½ tsp
Ginger-Garlic Paste - 1 tbsp
For Tempering
Ghee / Oil - 2 tsps
Jeera / Cumin Seeds - 2 tsps
Hing - 1 tsp
Red chillies - 2optional
Instructions
Wash the dals and soak it for 30 minutes.
Meanwhile finely chop the onions,tomatoes, green chillies and cilantro.
Drain the water from the dal and add it to the crockpot.
Add the chopped onions, tomatoes, green chillies, cilantro, salt, turmeric powder, ginger garlic paste, dal masala.
Add three cups of water and mix well.
Set temperature to high and let it cook for 3 hours.
After its done, mash it well with potato masher or with a ladle.
Now in the tadka pan heat the ghee or oil.
Once its hot, add the cumin seeds, hind and red chillies (if using, I didn’t use them)
Add it to the dal and that’s it yummy and healthy dal is ready.
Notes
Adjust the green chillies according to your taste. Adding red chillies during tadka is completely optional. If you don’t have dal masala you can add 2 tsps of coriander powder, 1 tsp of garam masala and dash of cumin powder.
