One of my favourite dish that my mom makes for me not only during diwali eve but also for snacks.. Its easy to make and a great snack to have during tea time.

  • Besan [Kadalai maavu] – 1 cup
  • Rice Flour [Arisi maavu] – 1 tbsp
  • Salt – as per taste
  • Oil for frying
  • Curry leaves for garnishing
  • Red chilli powder – 1 tbsp (add as per your taste)

  • Mix Rice flour and besan with water. It should be like dosa batter.
  • Mix red chilli powder and salt together and keep aside.
  • We get a special spatula for this in my native. Boondhi spatula which is comparitively bigger than the normal frying spatula. You can also use normal frying spatula for making boondhis. This spatula is for making boondhis not for getting them from oil.
  • We need four seperate spatulas for making boondhi.
    • Boondhi spatula with holes in it.
    • Normal spoon for pressing the boondhi
    • Pouring spatula normal spatula for pouring the blatter into the boondhi spatula.
    • One more big spatula for taking the boondhis from the oil.

  • Heat the oil. Keep the frying(boondhi) spatula on the top of the oil and pour two spatulas of boondhi blatter into our boondhi spatula. And press the blatter with spoon so that the boondhi falls as drops into the oil.
  • When the boondhis turn golden brown take them.
  • After making the boondhis, fry the curry leaves in the oil.
  • Now mix the curry leaves and the redchilli salt mixture to the boondhis.
