Nei Appam / Neyyappam / Unni Appam is one of the traditional sweet recipes that we prepare for Krishna Jayanthi and Karthigai Deepam. It’s a traditional dish in both Kerala and Tamil Nadu. It’s flour-based sweet fritter deep fried in ghee, but guess what, I am going to share the non-fried version of the same. Vazhaithandu Mor Kootu | Plantain Stem Kootu

Finally a Vazhaithandu/Plantain Stem recipe on my blog. :-) I am super happy to share one of my favorite recipes today – it’s the vazhaithandu or the plantain stem mor kootu, a close cousin of Avial. For avial, we use mixed vegetables, but for this, all you need is plantain stem. With the goodness of yogurt, coconut and coconut oil, this rich and creamy kootu is sure a relish.

Today I am going to share yet another lunch box recipe with a veggie sneaked in. :-) Yesterday I posted ridgegourd rice, and today it’s the protein rich – mushroom paniyaram – a delicious and mess free lunch box recipe that vaandu loves. I usually use a different rice, dal proportion for paniyaram batter (you find it here) but for this recipe, I did not use the paniyaram batter instead, I went with my regular idli/dosa batter. Ridgegourd Rice

The school season has already begun here in India, and it’s about to start in the USA and other countries soon. Packing kids lunch is always a challenging task. I shared a few kiddo’s favorite lunch box recipes last year, and here I am back with another set of kids friendly lunch box recipes. Kuthiraivali Aval Upma | Barnyard Millet Flakes Upma

It’s been ages since I posted a millet recipe. I am glad to post a different millet based upma recipe today. It’s the barnyard millet flakes upma or precisely Kuthiraivali aval upma.
