Avocado Roti/Phulka

 Avocado roti/phulka is a simple, flavorful and healthy recipe. It’s pretty much same as the regular roti except the addition of Avocado and sambhar podi. Err… You read it right. We love that hint of spiciness in the roti. It’s not paratha but at the same time it’s not the plain roti also. The addition of avocado makes the roti very soft and spongy.

One thing to note is I never save the avocado dough overnight. I try to mix required quantity and use them right away. If I feel I have extra dough, I prepare the roti with the remaining dough and save the roti. The dough tends to turn black in color. Either you need to add more water or lime juice. As we don’t prefer the tanginess in our roti, I avoid and prepare only the required quantity.

Avocado Roti/Phulka

Add more avocados for nice green roti. I usually add 1.5 to 2 avocados for 3 cups of wheat flour. But you can add more too. Will be posting the yummy side that I prepared tomorrow. So stay tuned. ;-)

Here is what I do,

Ingredients:

  • Wheat flour – 3 cups
  • Avocado – 2
  • Sambhar Podi – 2 tsps
  • Salt – 3 tsps
  • Water – for mixing the dough. (approx. ¾ to 1 cup)
  • Oil – if you planning to make it like chapatti

Steps:

  • Peel the skin and remove the seed from avocado.
  • Crumble them roughly and add it to the wheat flour.

  • Add the sambhar podi and salt also.
  • Knead the dough slowly by adding water.

  • Let the dough sit for 10 minutes.
  • Now make small balls and roll the roti.

  • Either you can make it phulka without adding any oil or you can prepare it by adding oil also.

Notes
  1. No need to add oil in the dough.
  2. Also don’t let the dough rest for more than 15 minutes.
