Oats Dosa

When I saw this recipe at IMC I wanted to try it right away. Something or the other came up and finally I was able to try this weekend. I modified the measurements, grinded oats with yogurt itself and also added onions and tadka. It’s a quick breakfast/tiffin that can be whipped up easily. It needs only 10 minutes of soaking time. And for kiddo as usual I serve the same dosa topped with cheddar cheese. I cannot imagine my refrigerator these days without paneer and cheddar.

I am posting a dosa recipe after a long time. The last one was tri color dosa. I love idly and dosa and you can sneak in a lot of vegetables and fruits in these two. (Remember my blue berry idly, celery dosa, spinach dosa and pumpkin dosa) I am not sneaking in or adding any veggie/fruit puree in this dosa. (This is a note to my friend N.) All we need for this dosa is oats, rice flour, wheat flour and rava. I bet you can add ragi flour, quinoa flour or bajra flour and making more fibrous and healthy.

I kept this simple and here is the recipe,

Ingredients:

  • Oats – 2 cups
  • Curd – 1/4 cup
  • Water – 2 cups
  • Wheat flour – 2 tbsps.
  • Rice flour – 3 tbsps.
  • Fine Rava / Sooji – ½ cup
  • Half of medium size onion finely chopped
  • Curry leaves – 1 strand
  • Chopped Cilantro – 2tbsps.
  • Green Chillies – 2
  • Oil – 1 tsp + for dosa
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
  • Cumin Seeds – 2 tsps.
  • Hing – ½ tsp
  • Salt – 2 tsps. (Adjust according to your taste)

Steps:

  • Grind the oats with curd and green chillies.
  • Add the rice flour, wheat flour, rava and salt to this mixture.
  • Add two cups of water and mix well. Let it sit for 10- 15 minutes and your dosa batter is ready.

  • Now add the finly chopped onions, cilantro and curry leaves.
  • In the tadka pan heat the oil and once the oil is hot add the mustard seeds, cumin seeds and hing.
  • As they start to splutter add it to the batter and mix well.
  • Prepare the dosa in the usual way.
  • Spread the batter in the tawa and add oil around the dosa. It took close 50 secs for the top part to be cooked. The color changes as below.

  • Now flip the dosa and let it cook for 30 to 40 secs. That’s it. The dosa is done.
  • Serve it with any chutneys of your choice. I served this with the peanut chutney.
