Pumpkin Spiced Latte

PumpkinSpicedLatte

Starbucks and Java City are one of my favorite coffee shops. Java City was my Togo spot during my masters especially during winters. It was within the campus itself. I was working as Student Programmer Analyst and the job was within the campus. So after the work before heading to my classes I get cafe mocha from Java City. During summer I would hunt Jamba juice.

When I started working Java City got replaced by Starbucks and again I had the luxury of having this shop within our building itself. Once I started working I started to have these coffees regularly without any guilt. I experimented a whole lot of flavors and one is this pumpkin spiced latte. This fall special latte/coffee and it’s available only during October and November and sometimes December. (In December peppermint becomes the flavor)

The pumpkin spiced latte reminds me of our Sukku Coffee and pumpkin spice is combination of cinnamonnutmeg, clove, and ginger powder. After moving to bay I miss the luxury of having Starbucks close by to my work or by home. This weekend suddenly I started to crave for this pumpkin spiced latte and prepared this at home. Luckily I had pumpkin puree at home. Amma mentioned the exact same thing that it tastes more like sukku coffee.

All we need for a 6 oz glass of milk is 1 tsp of pumpkin spice, 2 tsps of pumpkin puree, sugar and coffee decoction and cream according to your taste. Pumpkin puree is something I prepare for the soup and pie. (Pie recipe is coming soon.) Either you can prepare the puree like baking or by boiling the squash and puree them as I did the squash pasta sauce. If not the store bought one would work too.

Here is the recipe,

  • Boiled Milk – 6 oz
  • Coffee decoction (I used the regular Indian Filter coffee decoction) –  2 oz (Adjust accordingly – if you like strong coffee add more)
  • Pumpkin spice – 1 tsp
  • Pumpkin Puree – 2 tsp
  • Sugar – 2 tsp (according to your taste)
  • Whipped cream – as per your taste

Steps:

  • Warm the milk and add the decoction and sugar.
  • Mix well and now add the puree and pumpkin spice.
  • Mix well and check for sugar and spice.
  • Adjust accordingly and serve the coffee topped with whipped cream.

    • Hi Swetha, I use Kothas coffee powder that I get here in Indian Grocery store. Also I have the 110 V Indian coffee maker. I prepare the decotion in that. Also I have used Peets coffee and Startbucks fresh ground medium roast coffee for our Indian style one. Peets was good. My fav is always kothas :-) :-)

  1. Pumpkin Latte always had me intrigued. I was telling S about it and he was like… “enadu.. pumpkin in coffee ah.. no thanks” types :D :D Great to see this recipe here. Given how we get pumpkins almost all through the year, I will try this out :)

Would love hear back from you. Drop in your feedback and comments. Thanks
